WHERE`S THAT SPOT?

How is your memory? Can you recall Trysil as the host for The Arctic Challenge and do you remember when?
Most people in the industry can look back at TAC 2003, saying something like; – Hell, yeah, I was up there in those dark woods of Trysil, watching Shaun White taking home one of his first major titles in Slope style. And I remember the lavvo-after-party-wickedness and Killing Machine playing live. That`s what people remember, I guess. What they don`t know is where the spot acually were located.
I took a roadtrip to Trysil to find out, and man, that was hard. Slopes change, more lifts come to life, new hutts selling hotdogs and shit. I just couldn`t find it so I really had to search the woods for a long time. And suddenly I figured it out, like Indiana Jones finding his lost treasure. It was like a revelation, a vision; there it was right in front of me. The track used to get he right speed for the quarterpipe. That was one of those moments of pride, a slight feeling of humbleness and a glimse of forgotten snowboarding-history. Catch it if you can, next time you visit those old woods of Trysil.

A GOOD FLOW IN TRYSIL
Getting tired of the winter, longing for the beach, the waves and the cool breeze coming in from the sea? Well, I do!
That`s why I packed my shit and went to Trysil in the eastern Norway, mostly known as the biggest skiarea in the country, but also for hosting The Arctic Challenge back in 2003.
Anyways; Check out the Radisson BLU Hotel with a perfect single Flowride on the second floor. Hook up with instructor Adam for a great hour-ride, grab a beer in the nice poolbar or chill your exhausted body in the smooth SPA area.
Local Trysil-enthusiast, Thomas Munkelien dropped in for a ride on the flowride. And we had a good time!

LAST DAY EPILOG: TOTALLY AWESOME!

Check out the final day and the final blog. Amazing TAC 2010 is over and goes into the books of snowboarding-history.
Some great few days or what? And Peetu taking his first TAC win and his second TTR title. The total snowboarder.
Good friends from Method mag says goodbye, smalltime gangsters Shaun-style, and the crow goes wild for the last time, screaming out for the three gunners on the podium.

TAC LOVE!!

Hey, what`s kicking, bro?
Were you up there today, in spectacular Wyller, the perfect host of this years Oakley Arctic Challenge?
And what a set up. What a show. What a format. What a graphic and what a weather! Dude, the Norrøn Gods smiled epicly all the way from the great halls of Valhall.
Thor with his Hammer and Balder with his bow and arrow. They are the greatest Gods of the Universe.
The crowd was kicking back in the sun and the riding was pretty sick from where I was standing. Hazarding Roulette, fantastic enviromental bio in ”Miljøteltet”, flowding tunes from Hercules and Abstrackt, good food and bundies, buddas, rubber and wood all over the place. And no garbage at all. People got the massage, they read the pictures and they all behaved extrordanery well. This is The Oakley Arctic Challenge and that means a lot of love. TAC LOVE!

ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT

It’s friday and it’s a bad hair day.<p>

After a late night rumble with a monsterous pre P at the DC mainoffice and a kickass gathering with the guys from Burton, my body needed a little recovery. I’m stuck in my hotelroom trying to figure out what happend to my good friend, ending up at the hospital with a broken jaw at 5 am. Those fucking guys will pay. In blood.<p>

Anyways, I will be back a little later with some fresh updates from those kings of the Hill whenever they get down from the mountains.<p>

THE TEMPERATURE’S PEAKING

Like I just said: The Tempratures’s peaking and it’s all pretty much awesome. The sun is still there, the riders are stoked about the course, Lasse, Kiwi and Matty got big smiles on their faces and Terje is on top of everything. The guys from The Vålerenga klan are present with their killer buses and Heikki is back in Oslo!

March 4: THIRD DAY: SHOWMAN CHAS GULDEMOND IN OSLO!!

What a man! American Chas Guldemond’s first apperance here at The Arctic Challenge is finally happening. About time, I say!
But this is not his first time in Norway. No no, he did a trip to beautiful Stryn a couple of years ago for a DC photoshoot. He loves to be in Oslo and to be a part of one of the greatest events ever on snow.
- Yeah, bro, great to see you again. I just love to sit here in the sun and I’m looking forward to kick some Terje-butt (laughing hard!). But he’s not gonna compete, is he? Well, anyways, I’m gonna do my best. Had a great season so far. I got one Dew Tour title and I’m gonna go for another win up here in Oslo. And if I don’t, I’m still gonna have a good time. Did you see all these beautiful Norwegian girls? Man, this is looking good!
I wish him good luck wherever he goes!

March 4: THIRD DAY: WELCOME!

Welcome to all you TAC’ers on this great opening day of the 11th edition of this fine wintergame called Snowboard racing here in magnificent Oslo, Norway.

And what a beautiful morning it is! Yesterday, athletes came flying in from all corners of the world to battle the title and crown a champion. Oh boy, I am so thrilled! These notorious, handsome, young men will give us a spectacular airshow as they fly high up in the sky followed by breathtaking slides on iron poles. What a sport! It’s here to stay in this new, glorious decade!

Do not forget the Grand Opening, 17:00 at the City Hall tonight!

March 3: SECOND DAY: TWO WORDS: STILL AWESOME!!

Another great day in Oslo. What can I say? The sun is up, the sky is blue, it`s The Arctic Challenge! And, yeah, hell yeah; a sunny TAC is really a miracle. A twoways-monolouge turned out to be an aggresive (in a positive way, of cause), discussion between some  TAC crewmembers and myself – Has it ever been a sunny day during The Arctic Challenge? I remember back in the year of 2000. Stamsund had the perfect setup and insane weather for the whole week. I am pretty sure of that. Some says we were lucky in Tromsø TAC 2004. I think not. Trysil had a bad flow in 2003, and Midtstuen or Holmenkollen? Fog, snow and all kinds of shit from above. And everybody remembers the white powder that covered the woods of Linderudkollen last year. Is it a demolition-curse from some badass wizard in the sky?
Well if it was, it`s certainly broken now. Thank God (or who ever the hell he is)!
I`ll be back with some funny crap from my american showman, Chas Guldemond, that just arrived from the airport.

March 2 FIRST DAY: ONE WORD: AWESOME!!

Finally here. In Wyllerløypa. And what an arena! Awesome!
I`m pretty much speachless so I picked up my camera and shot some pictures instead. Not that I`m much of a photographer, but anyways;  Check out Subi and former hardcore snowchick Trude: Their love is for real!
And the boat. Goddahm. How the hell did they get it up there? Did they put sails in it?
What about the king of all shapes, Claes, what is is laughing about? And the hard working crew for Poland, pitching Thomas Holth to work even harder.

March 1 RIDING IN WYLLERLØYPA? I THINK NOT!

This one goes out to all of you suckers thinking of bringing your board to the Arena in Wyllerløypa this weekend; Forget about it! Leave it back home and put on some hickingboots. My friend, born 65 Miles on the wrong side of the boarder, says no. My maindude, the master of transitions, the monstermaker of all straight-jumps and the killer of all kinds of parkshaping, has spoken. And he is a hard man, I can tell you. Some people say he almost killed a couple of  small yellow ones in Tokyo last year. He had them work so hard digging the QP, causing one heartattack and one seriously brain damage. I didn`t see it for myself and I guess I wouldn`t care much if I did, but anyways: The park is for the TAC riders only! That`s what he says and you should take his word for it. I took this picture of Clas in Tokyo, and the sign says: ”Stay the fuck away from my QP or you will burn in Hell!!”

March 1 WHAT`S KICKIN, BRO?

So, it`s only a matter of days now. I`m counting the hours and within about the same time tomorrow, I will find myself kickin in the door of room 615 at Scandic Edderkoppen, downtown Oslo!
Well, I gonna try my best not to destroy anything this time and I can promise you; in my case that can be really, really hard. In all my trips around the world, there hasn`t been a single time that I haven`t fucked things up, spent way too much bucks at the darkest, local stripjoints or made scandal interviews that nobody could dare to print. On top of that, I`ve magaged to loose 4 iPhones, one Macbook and a car(!) in less than12 months. Bummer, bro!
Concentration, beings ahead of things, mastering the situation. Those things are so hard. Can you help me, Jaime? In this picture you look so calm and focused. I guess I don`t. Wish me luck. I will need it this time!

Feb 27 ANY OPENING HAZARDS THIS YEAR?

I really liked the opening of TAC last year. The great signing at Swagshop in Bogstadveien, that contained an insane lookalike AC/DC contribution with Henning and Jan Erik slamming on each axes supporting the band doing TNT or something in front of an enthusiastic crow. I was freezing my ass off, drank some beers with Calle and Kristoffer, got myself a great ticket to hell along with snowboardlegend Jaime Lynn, had a few drinks at Bristol Hotell, and finaly made it to Telenor Arena and the real Consert for the night.
And this year? I don`t really know actually. Rails at the City Hall? Pink Robot and Björn Hellfuck? Sounds a bit strange to me but I might be mistaken. Bring it on with some cold beers and warm chicks, and I`ll be there!
Time will tell…

Feb 25, THIS YEARS OFFICIAL TAC-TRACK IS READY TO ROLL!

TAC`s maindude, Henning Andersen, made musichistory when he pulled the Killing Machine-concept into a brand new and visionary direction back in 2006. The Henning Andersen Band came to life surving the song ”Going Home”, and made it a symbol of the international snowboardsircus. Since then, Henning and a bunch of different, VIP induviduals linked to the music – and snowboardscene, has made contributions by creations of several asskicking tracks! Who will ever forget Andy Finch on stage in Stamsund, Lofoten or his performance with the Dudes at Pigalle, Oslo back in 2008…
Well, now their back, and I can promise you; it`s probebly the best TAC song so far. The Official track: ” YOU GOT ME ROCKIN NOW” will soon be realised! Stay tuned!

An update from NY

The Red Bull Snowscrapers snowboard competition took place February 5th in the heart of New York City. 16 incredible riders from around the world came to compete and launch themselves down an 90 foot ramp and on to an 80 foo hip feature – one of the first features of its kind. US rider Shayne Pospisil took 1st place followed closely by Norwegian shredder Torstein Horgmo in 2nd. US rider Scotty Lago rounded out the podium with a best trick award going to Norwegian Legend Terje Haakonsen who impressed everyone with a sick one-footed backside air. The Red Bull Snowscrapers is a 5Star event on the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour and Torstein Horgmo’s 2nd place finish moves the young gun into the TTR Top 5.

Hemsedal hosted the halfpipe event during TAC 2001. And the TAC sticker still sticks to the window of Hemsedal Café where I`m currently sitting, updating the website and enjoying a cup of hot chocolate.

Finnish Grandslam in O´neill Evolution in Davos

You can say a lot of things about this years Evolution in Davos, but first of all it was cold. Damn cold and the slopes were rock hard. Anyway, the conditions for the night sessions for both SS and QP looked perfect from were I was standing. The tight course in this seasons first SS of the TTR Tour comp was amazing and Janne Korpi took the prize riding solid, fast, big and stuck all his landing, beating Seppe Smiths (BEL) and while swedish rider Kevin Backstrom catching third.
The QP finals ended up in a massive fight between the good finnish friends, Peetu Piironinen and Risto Mattila. The head to head battle in the freezing Davos air, got settled in the very last round; Peetu sticking a monster, travelling BS 540! Risto got his prize for the highest air with his 7,0m bs air. Anyway, a happy ending for Peetu winning his first 6 star at last.
