Unanimously YES! to Snowboarding World Championships in Oslo 2012
BARCELONA: Med enstemmige ja har de pågående generalforsamlinger i det internasjonale Snowboardforbundet (WSF) og verdensserien i snowboard (TTR) nettopp bestemt at Oslo får snowboard-VM i 2012. Det eneste som gjenstår nå er at Miljøvernministeren godkjenner utbygging av Tryvann Vinterpark, der arenaen skal ligge. Et snowboard-VM i Oslo vil plassere Norge ytterligere på snowboard-kartet og bygge opp Oslo som verdens vinterhovedstad.
BARCELONA: With an unanimously yes the general assembly of the International Snowboard Federation (WSF) and the world series in snowboarding (TTR) has just decided Oslo gets the world championship in snowboard 2012. The only remaining thing now is for the Norwegian Ministry of the Environment to approve of expanding Tryvann Vinterpark, where the arena will be located. A world championship in Oslo will utterly place Norway on the international snowboard map and contribute building Oslo as the winter capital of the world.

- At det internasjonale snowboardsamfunnet har blitt enige om å gi VM i 2012 til Oslo, er en stor tillitserklæring til det norske snowboardmiljøet, Oslo som arrangørby og jobben vi har lagt ned i dette prosjektet, sier Snowboardforbundets president Cecilia Flatum., og fortsetter:
- Og at det er bred enighet om å lage det første VM siden 1999 og det første VM for slopestyle noen sinne, vil også bety mye for internasjonal snowboard.
- Men ingenting er klart før Miljøverndepartementet godkjenner utbygging av VM-arenaen i Tryvann Vinterpark. Fylkesmannen skal sende sine uttalelser til Miljøverndepartementet i slutten av mai. Erik Solheim har tidligere sagt at han vil prioritere saken når den kommer på hans bord, så vi håper på en snarlig og positiv avklaring, sier Flatum.
-That the international snowboard community has agreed upon assigning World Championships 2012 to Oslo, is a great vote of confidence, both to the Norwegian snowboard community, to Oslo as a host city and to the job we have put into this project, says the president of the Norwegian Snowboard Association, Cecilia Flatum, and continues:
-That there is a broad agreement around creating the first World Championships since 1999 and the first championship for slopestyle ever, will in addition make a big difference for snowboard internationally.
-But nothing is decided until the Minsistry of the Environment approves of the expansion of Tryvann Vinterpark. The county governor plans to send its statement to the Ministry of Environment in the end of May. Erik Solheim, Environmental minister has earlier announced that he will prioritize the case when it reaches his office, so we are hoping for a quick and positive clarification, says Flatum.
Forbehold om arenagodkjennelse av Tryvann Vinterpark
Dagens godkjennelse av VM-søknaden har blitt gitt med det forbehold at avklaringer rundt utbygging av VM-arenaen i Tryvann Vinterpark kommer på plass i løpet av sommeren. Oslo Kommune støtter full utbygging, byrådet i Oslo har godkjent reguleringsplanen og kommunen har gitt 33 millioner til utbygging av arenaen og både økonomisk garanti på 28 millioner til VMet og støtte på 9 millioner til forberedelsene. Det er Miljøverndepartementet som må stadfeste utbyggingen, noe som skjer etter at Fylkesmannen har kommet med sine uttalelser.
- Uten støtten fra Oslo kommune, ville ikke dette vært mulig. Nå som snowboarderne har bestemt at VM skal til Oslo, håper vi at saken blir et nasjonalt anliggende, og at Regjeringen sørger for at både arena og VM blir realisert, sier Cecilia.
Subject to approval of Tryvann Vinterpark
Today’s approval of the application has been given with the reservation that the issues concerning the development of the site in Tryvann will be solved during this summer. The municipality of Oslo supports full expansion, the city council has approved the site plan and the municipality has granted 33 million NOK to the expansion of Tryvann, and both an economical guarantee of 28 million NOK for the event and 9 million NOK for the preparations.
It is the Ministry of the Environment that has to ratify the expansion, which has to be done after the count governor has submitted its statement.
-Without the backing of the municipality of Oslo this would not have been possible. When the snowboarders have decided that the World Championships is taking place in Oslo, we hope that the event will be a national affair, and that the government will provide for both the arena and the event being carried out, Flatum goes on.
Det norske miljøet har vært sentralt i utviklingen
- Norge har opparbeidet seg stor arrangørerfaring etter å ha gjennomført The Artic Challenge (TAC) i ti år. I 2009 presenterte TAC et revolusjonerende TV-konsept i samarbeid med NRK. Presentasjonen av sporten har blitt spennende på TV, noe som igjen har gjort at de store, internasjonale rettighetsselskapene er kommet på banen. Det norske miljøet har vært helt sentralt i denne utviklingen. Med VM på hjemmebane blir ikke bare vi belønnet for hard arbeid, men hele snowboardverdenen får et felles symbol og samles rundt. Det er nå moroa begynner, sier Henning Andersen, daglig leder i TAC, som håper Miljøverndepartementet godkjenner utbygging av Tryvann Vinterpark slik at arbeidet med arenaen kan starte.
The Norwegian community has been important in the development
Norway has achieved a great deal of experience in arranging such events after ten years of The Arctic Challenge (TAC). In 2009 TAC presented a revolutionary TV-concept with the help of NRK. The presentation of the sport has become thrilling on TV, something that again has made the big, international right companies interested. The Norwegian community has been the out spring of this progress.
- With World Championships on our home field are we not only rewarded for hard work, but the entire snowboard world receives a common symbol to link us together. This is when the fun starts, declares Henning Andersen, the general manager of TAC, whom hopes the Ministry of the Environment will approve of the expansion of Tryvann so that the work in Tryvann can begin.
