Gian Simmen

Gian Simmen won both best trick and the quarterpipe finals at The Arctic Challenge and also had the highest air in 2003.

Gian has been a pro snowboarder for more than 12 years, and has ridden more than one quarterpipe contest.

This season he already placed 7th in quarterpipe at the 6str TTR O`Neill Evolution, 9th in the halfpipe at the 6str TTR Burton European Open and 7th in slopestyle at the 5str TTR Crans-Montana Champs Open by RipCurl.

Describe a quarterpipe hit at one of the big QP events? How does it feel from in run to landing?

You stand up there, look down and it’s just a long way and you have a big wall at the end. You get the go to drop in, turn your board, start going and you think “should I speed check or not?”. Then you feel the compression, just ollie a little bit and you go “up – up – up – up” till the dead point where you start to turn. You do a fat backside air and then you come down and you see you catch the landing perfect. It just take a few seconds but it’s a crazy good feeling.

When Gian isn`t riding, he likes to go skateboarding or mountain biking, or hang out with his wife, Petra.
